Web Host

Author's Comments
We
are headed to
Canada
for a week’s vacation next Friday
(5/11). We are undecided if
we will publish an issue on May 11 and/or May 18.
Vacations are for relief from work and eZines
so we will see how it shakes out.
If
we are inspired on some topic, we may publish a short one or report late
on the vacation. Wait and
see.

Site
Pro News
I
(John) am a subscriber to Site Pro News and find it to be very helpful.
It contains some good articles about site promotion, SEO, and
helpful tips on improving your website.
The
negative – it is published daily and comes too often.
However, I scan it quickly and filter it for what appeals to me.
We
have published two articles from Site Pro News to date.
I
recommend that you take a quick look at Site Pro News to see if the
content appeals to you.
We
have included a subscription form for your convenience.
(We are not affiliates of this publication and make nothing from
this recommendation).
The
Best Web Host.com
This
last week, I launched the new website, The Best
Web Host.com (TBWH site). It is a work in progress as is any
website.
The
mission of the TBWH is to help people match their website needs to the
web host that best satisfies the needs of the website to be hosted.
I only offer opinions
about Hostexcellence.com, HostMonster.com, GoDaddy.com, and Site Build
It.
I am sticking to my policy of only
recommending what I know and use rather
than recommending what are considered the top ten “hottest web hosts de jour” and recommending them just to earn
the affiliate commission. (Yes,
I am an affiliate of the web hosts that I recommend.)
During my
time observing people on the Internet, I have observed that people
choose their web hosts for the wrong reasons.
When people hit the Net to start
searching for a web host, they usually start searching using the wrong
criteria.
Since the Internet is considered “technical”, it seems that
people automatically start looking at how many gigs of memory and how
much bandwidth each net host provides for the price.
They read that they can have 10,000 email addresses, 1,000 FTP
accounts, and 1,000 mailing lists (Isn’t that a joke?
Walmart might need that kind of support, but a starting website?
I don’t think so!) They
consider what software is provided?
.ASP. Perl, PHP, .NET, Cold Fusion, etc. (Yes, “etc.” is not
software).
My observation is that people tend to
get so bogged down in the technical aspects (hardware
and software) of what a web host offers
that they lose site of the basic fact that the hardware side of the web host is only the medium that carries their message
to the world via the Internet.
Web hosts are a dime a dozen and the
competition for customers is fierce.
On the hardware
technical side, a web host needs:
·
A secure data center
that stays up running 100% of the time.
·
Bandwidth wide enough to handle the all the traffic quickly.
·
Storage to handle all
the data.
·
Processor speed fast
enough to process the traffic without delay.
·
A secure, high speed,
reliable connection to the Internet
Any
of the major web hosts provides these so why research it to the Nth
degree? It is a waste of
time.
What the person starting to build a
website should ask is “what is the mission of my website”?
Then they look for the web host that best helps them build a
website that satisfies that mission.
This is the niche where The Best Web
Host.com fits.
You will notice that you may have seen
some of the material posted on the website.
I practice what I preach about leveraging content.
I have modified articles and postings that we have previously
written and used them on TBWH. This
has enabled me to quickly build a 30 plus page website (and growing).
Blogger
Law
We read a good article on the legal
considerations of Internet publishing and blogging.
Since we could not find a quick way to get approval to reprint it
on Boomer eZine, here is the
link to the article.
It
is well written and is not full of “legalese” so you can easily read
it and understand it.
Enjoy
it at http://www.avivadirectory.com/blogger-law.
Web
Host for Dummies ®
Authors
Note: I wrote this as an
article and sent it to EzineArticles.com.
I am including it here so you can see how to use an article to
promote a website. This one
obviously promotes The Best Web Host.com.
You will also see
information in this article that is similar to information from a
previous article in this issue. Again,
this is an example in leveraging content.
We
know you are not really a “dummy”, but this
phrase has become a very common expression meaning basic information for
a beginner. Wiley
Publishing, Inc. has built this “for dummies”® theme into a very
profitable business. There
seems to be a “________ for dummies”® publication for any topic you
can imagine.
Let’s
discuss what a web host for dummies® should tell you.
Most of the time, people looking for a
web host asks all the wrong questions about the web host. Since
the Internet is considered “technical”, it seems that people
automatically start looking at how many gigs of memory and how much bandwidth each web host provides for the price.
They read that they can get 10,000 email addresses, 1,000 FTP
accounts, and 1,000 mailing lists (Isn’t that a joke?
Walmart might need that kind of support, but a starting website?
I don’t think so!) They
consider what software is provided?
.ASP, Perl, PHP, .NET, Cold Fusion, etc. (Yes, “etc.” is not
software).
My observation is that people tend to
get so bogged down in the technical aspects (hardware
and software) of what a web host offers that they lose site of the basic
fact that the hardware side of the web host is only the
medium that carries their message to the world via the Internet.
It is the means to the end.
Web
hosts are a dime a dozen and the competition for customers is fierce.
On the har
dw
are
technical side, a web host should provide:
·
A secure data center
that stays up running 100% of the time.

Any

What people starting to build a new
website should really ask is “what is the mission of my website”?
Then they should look for the best web host that helps them build
a website that satisfies that mission.
All
web hosts are not all things to all people.
Spend the time finding the
best web host for dummies that satisfies the needs of your new
website.
I wish you the
best in building that new site.
That wraps up our
issue for this week. Until
next week, stay tuned.
