My father grew up in the transition time between the horse and buggy era and automobiles.  He used a saying that “a person was like an old fire horse” meaning when the fire bell rang, the horse was ready to get in the harness and pull the fire wagon to the fire.  Stories are told about old, retired fire horses running to the fire by themselves.

When the publishing deadline for Boomer eZine rolls around, I am like an “old fire horse”.  I can’t stay away from the keyboard to bang out a short eZine.  Linda is not overly pleased since she wants me packing for our vacation in Canada .

When you read this, we will be in Canada .  By the help of Aweber.com, the autoresponder we use for handling our mailing lists, you will automatically be sent this on Friday evening, 5/11/07 at 8:00PM EST.

We wish you a great week while we are on vacation.

Technorati  

We mentioned Technorati in an article on Web 2.0 in Volume 1 Issue 46 (http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V1I46_022307.htm), but that was the extent of our coverage of this important web site.  

Technorati is a search engine for blogs.  It is a key site to use in promoting your blog(s).  

To register your blog with Technorati, click the link on the home page “Claim my blog”.  This will open a sign up page so you can become a member.  Go ahead and complete the form.  At the bottom of the form, check the box for “I have a blog and would like to claim it now”.  

This will take you to the page telling you how to claim your blog.  This requires you to enter your blog’s URL in the input box and click the button.  Technorati will give you information that you copy and enter into a post in your blog.  Open another window to do this so you do not lose your place on Technorati.  

Once you have published this to your blog, go back to Technorati and click the button to indicate that you are ready for Technorati to verify that you own the blog.  You will receive a verification message indicating success.  

Once your blog is established on Technorati, each time you update your blog, you can sign in and tell Technorati to ping your blog.  This will cause Technorati to spider it and put the information in its search database.  

Technorati has a helpful tool that you can include in your blog header to allow your readers to search the blog.  Go to http://www.the-best-web-host.com/best-web-host-blog.html to see an example of the search box.  It includes a link to “Blogs that Link Here” and “View My Profile” along with a Technorati logo.  

I recommend that you learn about Technorati and how to use it to help you promote your blog.  

We have five blogs registered on Technorati.  It helps drive traffic to the blogs.
